The tiny town of Williams was founded in 1881, and took its name from the noted, or notorious, Robert Williams, who led a militia band during the Rogue Wars. The store, one of the oldest continually operating general stories in Oregon, was built in 1897 and was moved to its current site in 1908 by rolling the building on logs.
