Idylic in spots, treacherous in others, the Rogue River was named by the early travelers through Southern Oregon for the ‘roguish’ natives that lived along its banks and harassed interlopers passing through. Although they were made up of separate bands of Takelma, Shasta Costa and other groups, the whites refered to them all as Rogues.
