Eight Dollar Mountain and the Deer Creek Valley

Eight Dollar Mountain and the Deer Creek Valley

In March of 1856 the slopes of Eight Dollar Mountain across the Deer Creek Valley were alive with a running fire-fight between Chief John's band and about 100 local militia from Fort Hay, a fortified cabin located north of here. The two sides traded fire for hours along a line that grew to a quarter-mile long before both sides broke off with a few casualties.
