Fort Lane (1853-56)
An old ponderosa pine towers over younger scrub oak that have grown up at the site of Fort Lane, established in 1853 to enforce the treaty negotiated in that year by Joseph Lane, Oregon's first territorial governor and a general in the state militia at the time. The Fort, located across the Rogue River from Lower Table Rock, was occupied for three years and was the only regular U.S. Army post in the Rogue Valley during the wars.
