I discovered what photography was really all about the first time I looked through the ground glass on an old 4x5 press camera I picked up in 1985. Ever since I've enjoyed using all manner of cameras to record the iconic, the serene, and the patina of things past their prime. For the past couple of decades I've been investigating and interpreting local histories of the Northwest through photographs of what's been left behind. I began printing in silver with large-format film cameras (4x5, 5x7 and 8x10), and in the 1990s took up the traditional platinum process. These days I also photograph with digital cameras, including ones converted to record infrared light, from which I make archival pigment ink prints. For a time I had fun manipulating Polaroid SX-70 prints, and I also enjoying playing with a pinhole film camera I made from a cigar box and a 5x7 film back. I love the challenge of learning how each different type of camera 'sees' the world, and then applying it to the subject matter best suited to its characteristics and peculiarities. The prints shown on this site are available for purchase by contacting me directly. Original 5x7" and 8x10" platinum/palladium prints (mounted in acid-free matts) range in price from $300 to $600. Archival-quality pigment inkjet prints of any of the other images you see on this site can be custom ordered in a range of sizes—from $100 to $300 for print only; or $250 to $600 for matted prints.
